Blake Woolsey – Trumpet


Blake is a Wyoming native, originally from Wheatland. Currently pursuing his DMA at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, he holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of Wyoming (2014), and a Master of Arts in Music from Washington State University (2016). While pursuing his Master’s degree, Blake was chosen as the winner of WSU’s annual Concerto Competition, after which he was featured playing Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto in concert with the orchestra.
Blake maintains an active performance and teaching schedule; most recently, he was invited to serve as a Resident Guest Artist and Clinician for the Shenyang Conservatory of Music’s Jazz Big Band at the 3rd annual Jazz Education Festival in Shanghai, China.
Over the years, Blake has performed many different styles of music, with an emphasis on classical music. He has been the principal trumpet player in the University of Wyoming’s Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra, as well as Washington State University’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. During his time in Washington, Blake also performed with the Washington-Idaho Symphony, the Palouse Choral Society, and the award-winning WSU Big Band.


Blake has been a member of the Grand Avenue Brass (both as a sub and full-time member) since 2013.
