It’s certainly been a while since our last public performance, and we thought it would be worthwhile to update our followers on what’s new with the group these days. We made the difficult decision this past year of tabling work with GAB to focus more on our own personal careers– one of many unique challenges in managing a group such as this by ourselves. Needless to say, we are very excited to be performing as Grand Avenue Brass again, and have a highly-anticipated announcement below… But first, a few short updates about what we’ve been up to lately:
- Stephen graduated from CCM with his Master’s Degree in Trumpet Performance; you can see him performing with the Kentucky Symphony and Springfield Symphony Orchestras as a substitute musician, freelancing in the Cincinnati area, and fulfilling his new role of Athletic Band Director for Wilmington College in Ohio!
- Blake took over for Stephen as the Graduate Teaching Assistant for the CCM Trumpet Studio, where he is completing DMA studies in Trumpet Performance. In addition, Blake continues to perform in the Cincinnati region and has arranged several music video projects in his free time.
- Aaron completed his studies in Wyoming, and has moved back to the Chicago area to pursue work in a more active freelancing scene. Over the past year he has worked as a music repair tech, performed with some community bands, and has continued preparing repertoire for graduate school auditions.
- Tyler has started his second year at Bowling Green State University, where he is a Graduate Assistant to the Athletic Band and Conducting faculties. He will graduate with a degree in Horn Performance (with additional studies in Instrumental Conducting) in Spring of 2019.
We are thrilled to reveal what is arguably our biggest public performance to date: a residency on the campus of Bowling Green State University on October 12-13 with the BGSU Department of Music and the BGSU Falcon Marching Band!!
October 12: Rehearsal with Falcon Marching Band students.
October 13: Homecoming Halftime Performance with the Falcon Marching Band.
Thanks to our family, friends, and other followers who never stopped asking us “what’s next?” and encouraging us to keep putting work out there. We are SO excited for this high-profile performance and opportunity to work with the incredible team of faculty and students in Bowling Green. Go Falcons!!
Cincinnati!! Grand Avenue Brass makes their Ohio debut this month at the beautiful College-Conservatory of Music’s campus on Friday, September 1. We are THRILLED to join Stephen on his Master’s Degree recital to start off the 2017-2018 academic year, and make some new friends out east. Be sure to check us out as we close Stephen’s recital program with a fan-favorite: Prelude from “Suite Bergamasque”.
Reflecting on our January 2017 tour of Wyoming and South Dakota: what a ride!! Thanks to everyone that joined us, either on the road or through following along on social media. It was our pleasure to serve communities throughout the Midwest region and bring some BRASS music to new places.
More exciting news is definitely in the works, but for now we’ll be taking some much-needed time off to focus and dig into another academic semester for several of our members!!
